New music ~ Supershy ~ very much summer swimming pool feel to Tom Misch’s guitar and mix over a Roberta Flack classic Feel Like Making Love. Lots to like.
Performance ~ Kid Klava ~ a random one and this isn’t on any streaming yet but it’s just really classy. Came to it through Dan Bingham who’s playing I always really love (and try to badly copy more than I’d like to admit) but think Kid Klava’s voice is special and something touching about the writing. Music geek stuff ~ pizzicato ~ there’s lots to like about Claudio Monteverdi. He was a forward thinker in late 16th century Italy and faced down critics who slagged off his avant garde compositional style, landing a gig as the maestro at St Mark’s in Venice by writing his Vespers specifically for the timing of the reverberations in the building. He basically invented the Opera and had a side hustle writing smutty madrigals for the proles. He also invented pizzicato - a technique where string players pluck notes with the fingers rather than play them with a bow.
The Vision Quartet employ this technique to majestic effect in this rendition of a Samba that makes me shake my shoulders around the kitchen in a daughter-embarassing manner.
