Inspiration ~ Sep22
New music ~ Matt Carmichael ~ for me one of the most exciting young players around, I loved his debut release Where Will the River Flow from last year that set beautiful melodies derived from the folk tradition of his native Scotland with modern arrangements. He has new music out you can find here. I don’t want to be too cheesy around recent events but would direct you to his recording Dear Grandma which I find to be pretty moving.
Performance ~ Carpenters ~ some brilliant old school set design, styling, hair cuts! But what a song and Karen Carpenter’s vocals are so silky.
Music geek stuff ~ Autumn Leaves ~ Autumn is my favourite season, especially the start of it before things get too cold and wet. Colourful trees, a new rugby season, comfy jumper wearing, bonfires, crumble. I’ve written before about the circle of 5ths (a nice little chord progression fall back or an infinitely deep exploration of tonality ~ depending on your mood) and the standard Autumn Leaves is a class example. Nahre Sol uses it as a basis for demonstrating the language of some craft topping composers over the years. Slightly clickbait but she’s so talented and it’s interesting to watch.
