New music ~ Dodi ~ I got into Dodi when I came across her cover of Here Comes The Sun with Jason Collier. Classy voice, low bullshit person / artistry, sexy timing. Really like this latest - Got Weird.
Performance ~ Kings College Choir ~ not too much to say about this one except it’s some Mozart genius sung by the best choir in Cambridge.
Music geek stuff ~ Pedal Points ~ a pedal point is a tone sustained through several changes of harmony and takes its name from organists’ ability to plonk a foot on one pedal while mucking about on the manuals. They are all over Bach, film music, dramatic bits in operas etc. But a little gem of an example crops up in last verse of James Taylor’s Fire and Rain.
Julian Polack is one of my favourite musicians creating at the moment and has a little masterclass here on how to use a pedal point on the top of Neo-soul chord progressions to tie everything together. Tis sweet.
