Inspiration ~ Jun22
New music ~ Paolo Nutini ~ Paulo Nutini is a quality over quantity guy. 8 years after Caustic Love he has just released his latest album Last Night in the Bittersweet. It’s brilliant. His distinctive voice is rich and emotive, the writing mixes simplicity and sweetness with darker moments of introspection and the whole thing exceptionally well recorded and warrants listening with some decent headphones or speakers. It was produced by Nutini, Dani Castelar and Gavin Fitzjohn and whatever they did it is warm and 3D and feels like a perfect, lightly buffed live performance. They’ve somehow managed to incorporate some really rich, involved harmonies, pads, BVs and guitars with great sounding drums driving everything whilst never slipping from keeping the main vocal totally available. What an artist this guy is.
Performance ~ Samm Henshaw ~ you’ll go a long way to find the quality of curation and performance you get from Mahogany Sessions and I always return to this beautiful showcase of Samm Henshaw’s vocal talent. He’s not done much that’s cut through for a while, but I think he will.
Music geek stuff ~ Beach Boys Vocals ~ I think God Only Knows by the Beach Boys is an excellent pop song. Not a controversial view. Listening to the isolated vocal tracks and harmonies is pretty rewarding.
