New music ~ Sault ~ So much great new music this month (James Blake, Oli Fox’s latest and a beautiful new summer track from Kiefer) but I’ve gone with Sault’s latest album and Light’s In Your Hands in particular. They were pretty cool and opaque for a while but now known as producer Inflo, Cleo Sol and Kid Sister. The music is everything from Neo Soul to Rhythm and Blues and funk but all finely crafted and sonically engaging. This track has some spoken word and stood out for me from the latest album but everything they produced on 5 and 7 is highest quality if you want to check it out.
Performance ~ Lang Lang plays Chopin ~ I always put some classical music at the end of the 10 song playlist for the month so thought it was time to air some in the performance section. I may be misguidedly brainwashed by Lang Lang’s virtuosic stuff but give it 5 mins with some headphones and I feel his interpretation of Chopin’s melodies will give you back a fair bit and this is my favourite.
Music geek stuff ~ Victon Wooton ~ I don’t know much about playing the bass but this guy is near the top (my perspective is narrow but Pino Palladino and Joe Dart also seem pretty brilliant to me). Here he very casually covers Stevie with a loop pedal seeming less like a vehicle for showing off and restricting harmonic development than a necessary tool for his interpretation.
