Inspiration ~ Feb23
New music ~ Loyle Corner ~ sometimes closer to poet than rapper, Loyle Carner has the most sat back, soulful style but the content stings at times. Not brand new but last year’s HGU is a great example - there’s a Colors film of it here and I’ve linked to him breaking down the song to his collaborators in the studio below in the picture.
Performance ~ The Beatles ~ this is some great footage of Paul McCartney playing Let It Be to the rest of the band for the first time.
Music geek stuff ~ Mozart’s Requiem ~ little to add here except to recommend the excellent latest edition of The Listening Service all about Mozart’s masterpiece. This was an eye-opener the first time I sung it (as a treble), combining his unparalleled ability to write catchy melodies with the dense textures and existential angst demanded of a dying man writing about faith and the human condition.
A little plug - my ‘other’ favourite requiem (by Dufule) is being performed by the Bach Choir at Holy Trinity Church, Sloane Sq on Thursday - a handful of tickets are still available if anyone is keen. Here’s a link.
