New music ~ Little Blue ~ Jacob Collier has finished his four part tour de force, releasing Djesse vol4 this month. He’s encompassed all sorts of styles across the 4 records - to my ears most successfully channeling soul and exploring his facility with harmonic richness. But this song Little Blue is a James Taylor / Nick Drake gem of songwriting and of course Mahogany found a way to render it in the most authentic, beautiful and visually striking way at the Arts Centre in Bow, London.

Performance ~ Rob Araujo ~ going a little rootsy this month with the ‘live performance’. Taylor Swift in an arena would be undoubtedly an amazing experience but here is a bearded man playing a Beegees cover on the piano in a pink cardigan and I defy you not to feel a stirring of the loins.

Music geek stuff ~ Hearing Colour ~ a bit of AI bandwagoning here….. but I wondered whether computing power might help us blur the boundaries between sensory perception a little. TED videos might feel a bit retro but this one does a good job of helping us consider how we might hear colour with the help of a software membrane (the picture below is the reverse - a colour render of part of the Magic Flute).

You can see a cello string resonate and we’ve had radar technology for a long time, but perhaps the exponential growth of computing power and front end development could mean increasingly sophisticated ‘translation’ of aural to visual to taste to touch. I’d be really interested if anyone who’s read this far knows of any applications like this?
